How the Calculation Works
Profit Calculation
For each PI product, the calculator computes:
- Input Cost: Sum of all raw material prices × quantities needed
- Import Tax: Input Cost × Tax Rate (materials brought to planet)
- Output Value: Sell Price × Output Quantity
- Export Tax: Output Value × Tax Rate (product launched from planet)
- Total Tax: Import Tax + Export Tax
- Profit: Output Value - Input Cost - Total Tax
Margin Calculation
The profit margin shows profitability:
- For P2-P4: Margin = (Profit ÷ (Input Cost + Import Tax)) × 100%
- For P1: Margin = (Profit ÷ Output Value) × 100%
- Green = Profitable (positive margin)
- Red = Unprofitable (negative margin)
Note: PI taxes are applied twice - once when importing materials to the planet (Import Tax) and once when exporting the finished product (Export Tax). Default tax rate is 10%.
